Welcome in the Vistors Centre of the Herrnhut Star Company

The Herrnhut Star Company´s Workshop Showroom is situated at the company´s main production site. It offers the year round opportunity of viewing the manufacturing process whilst surrounded by a striking array of stars sparkling in various colours and sizes.

 

Just as they always have been, Herrnhut Stars are still made traditionally by hand and are pieced togehter in several stages. Visitors can follow the production of a paper star through the various work stations from beginning to end.

 

Alongside that of larger stars, the manufacture of the smallest paper and plastic star, with a diameter of just 13cm, can be seen. The manufacture of both kinds of star has it´s own peculiarities.

The assembly of the smallest paper stars is particularly worth seeing, being achieved with the help of tweezers as each piece is glued to the next. This intricate work requires a steady hand.

 

In contrast, the assembly of the smallest plastic stars, being the only star in the product range built around a core fram, is consequently comparatively easier and quicker to achieve.

 

Both younger and older visitors have the opportunity to try their hand at assembling a star themself.

 

 

So the showroom demonstrates the manufacture of the handmade stars and also has an exhibition anda movie about the history of the Herrnhut Stars and the Moravian Church. Furthermore the Café "Among the Stars" invites relaxation.

 

The relationship between the town of Herrnhut and ist Moravian Congregation is demonstrated not only in the exhibition. In and around the building one can find typical elements of the Herrnhut Baroque and Herrnhut landscaping. The colours of the original star - white and red - are the dominat colours of the visitor center.
